Cape Vilán is located 5 km from Camariñas. It is one of this coastline’s most magnificent places, and just like the northern coast of the Municipality of Camariñas, it is part of the Natura 2000 Network. It is officially recognized as a Site of Community Interest (SCI Costa da Morte) and a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).
The cape, defying the sea, is formed by a rocky promontory ending in the islet called Vilán de Fóra. Almost all of Spain’s black-legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) and cormorant (Uria aalge) colonies are concentrated here. There are other bird species such as shearwaters, gannets, razorbills… it is an excellent place for birdwatching, like the Basa inlet and the mouth of the Grande river.
